Digital X-Ray Clinic of the Future

Project with Philips Design APAC (2020)

Winner of the iF Design Award for Professional Concept in 2021

The redesigned X-ray room destigmatizes traditional cold and uninviting clinics and creates a comforting and relaxing environment, reducing patient anxiety while simultaneously improving clinical efficiency.

The service flow and spatial circulation take patients through a well-informed and assured journey. Elements like automated self-registration reception, digital signage and mirrors in changing rooms inform and empower patients. Ambient lighting doubles as signal lighting, blue turns to warm orange as the scan begins, preparing the patient. While they wait, pulsing blue light and the sound of waves help them relax.

A warm and inviting ambience welcomes patients at the reception. Automated self-registration reception counters empowers patients in their journey. A flexible waiting area with varied settings (bench seating, coffee table, dining table) caters to varying needs while patients wait.

Patients receive guided information as they prepare for their scan in the changing room. A digital mirror guides them through the process from dawning their gowns, to patient precautions and consent, and finally supplementary information about their x-ray scan.

The most unique innovation of the space - the ambient lighting that floods the room from cove ceiling lighting, also functions as a signal lighting during patient scans. Lights pulsate in an alluring tone of blue, alongside soothing audio of crashing waves calm patients while they wait. The blue turns a warm orange hue as the scan begins, preparing the patient to hold their breath, for a shorter amount of time as the radiographer accurately captures the x-ray. The relaxing environment addresses patient anxiety and fidgeting to eliminate the risk of re-scans; improving clinical efficiency.
